Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Shoe of Shoes
This sculpture is in front of The Brown Shoe Company in Clayton, MO. It was created by an artist named, Victoria Fuller. It was made in 1999 and is made out of 2000 aluminum shoes. This is what she had to say about her sculture and the reasons she made it;
"Shoes are the building blocks of this sculpture, and metaphorically speaking, are like individual cells which make up the body of the shoe, seemingly comtaining the DNA of the larger shoe. Each small shoe is like the miniature replica of the larger shoe. While the collection of many shoes can represent commercial mass production, it can also represent a culture icon of femininty, perhaps collective feminie strength. The common object is elevated to a higher form, by transforming the mundane into a surreal fantasy."
I completely agree with what she is saying! Because it does show that there is a mass production of items in the United States, but i love that she says that it also shows the femininity of the US, and the strengths of the "modern" woman. She had many other great pieces and I think that anyone who is reading this should go and check out her site. Here is the link to it http://objectartist.com/

After reading and annotating the articles (excerpt from Suburban Nation and the article about O'Fallon and St. Peters being one of the top places in the United States to live) which article is closest to expressing your views?
In other words, are you persuaded that the suburban landscape is confining and restrictive? Or do you feel that it is a safe harbor for families, a great place to live? Did the excerpt from Suburban Nation, which criticizes your home town, offend you? Or did you agree?
ALL OPINIONS ARE VALID AS LONG AS YOU MAKE SURE YOU EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK WHAT YOU THINK!
